DAY 01
Early departure from Cusco in one of our vehicules specially equiped for
the route. Going through interesting interandean valleys and picturesque
native communities.
Visit to the pre-inka tumbs of Ninamarca at noon which are known as chullpas, then we'll go to Paucartambo, traditional and important colonial village; it still preserves its characteristics of the colonial times.
Continuing the trip, we'll ascend up to Acjanacu at 3,850 meters above the sea level. It is from here that we'll start going down passing by the cloud forest, rich zone with a lot of endemic species like the spectacle bear, the cock of the rock, orchides, bromilias, etc. We'll spend the first night comfortably installed in our platforms.
DAY 02
We'll see very early the interesting flirting dance of the cock of the
rock, national bird of Peru which has outstanding red-orange feathers. After
breakfast we'll continue our journey by bus going through the high jungle,
arriving later to Atalaya, located at the shores of Alto Madre de Dios river
at 700 meters above the sea level where the pluvial equipment of the agency
is located.
Ones our bote will be ready with all the necessary trip equipment, we'll
start going down by the river and we'll be able to observe the diversity of
birds around the zone like herons, bouchers, cormorans, etc. until our
arrival to Erika's private reserve where weÕll walk by its interesting
trails.
Overnight at the lodge.
DAY 03
Departure by boat to the Shipetiari community where we'll have a short
walk to continue until Boca Manu airport later (optional flight Cusco - Boca
Manu in a small plane, there is the possibility to join the group which went
by road).
We'll sail inmediately on the Manu river reserved zone to camp at the Puesto de Vigilancia Limonal, where there is a passport control to enter into the reserved zone, then we'll have a short walk in the forest to see insects, birds, monkeys, etc
DAY 04
By boat to Cocha Salvador where we'll spend two nights.
Possibilities to see birds, caimans and some mammals on the way.
Do a short night walk around our camping and we'll use the catamaran for
sailing on Salvador lake with flashlights to see the black caiman in action,
looking for food.
DAY 05
Early visit in catamaran over Salvador lake to see the giant otter (Pteronura
brasiliensis) an endangered specie, the black caiman (Melanosuchus Niger),
the Hoatzin (Ophisthocomus hoatzin), the spider monkey (Ateles paniscus),
etc., as well as some flora. Then we'll return to the campsite for a
delicious breakfast.
Later, we'll walk through a primary forest with a big diversity in species, arriving to Otorongo lake after a 4 hours walk, lake where there is a 15 meters high tower. We'll be able to appreciate the landscape and the families of the giant otters from up here
DAY 06
This day we'll aboard our boat to sail by Manu river until Boca Manu,
small village located at the water joins of Manu and Madre de Dios rivers.
The river takes the name of Madre de Dios from this point, after sailing
it, we'll arrive by sunset to Tambo Blanquillo private reserve where we'll
spend one more night to enjoy the mystery of the jungle.
DAY 07
Very early, before breakfast, we'll use again a camouflashed catamaran
to see the collpa, a clay hill near the river where different kinds of
parrots and macaws have their early breakfast to get the necessary minerals
for their dietetic balance.
The parroquites, amazonic parrots and blue head parrots start an unforgetable show of a vivid colored wilderness. Finally, the macaws end the show.
Then we'll sail on Madre de Dios river until the Boca Manu airport where you can have the possibilitiy to take the plane to Cusco, otherwise we'll keep sailing on Madre de Dios river and spend the night in an appropiate beach.
DAY 08
Early departure to Atalaya for taking the bus to Cusco in the afternoon,
arriving in the early morning of the next day. END OF OUR SERVICES.
OUR SERVICES INCLUDE:
Bus transportation, airplane transportation (if you have choosen this
option), boat transportation, 1 night in Tambo San Pedro, 1 night in Erika
lodge, 1 night in Tambo Blanquillo, camping equipment (except sleeping bag),
full meals (vegetarian option), bilingual specialized guide, tramit of
documents and payments to get into Manu National Park, lugage and box
security for your documents and valuables.
FLYING ALTERNATIVES:
3th DAY : Flight Cusco to Boca Manu in a small plane, arriving at noon.
7th DAY : Flight Boca Manu to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon.
NOTE : It's only allowed to carry 10 kg. per person, if you take this
service.
